I just started a bi-monthly eberron campaign after not gaming for a long time (I think my last regular gaming group was darksun).
I really like the setting - like darksun, its an atypical and rich fantasy world. there are a lot of house rules on top of the whole 3.5 system, which help make it feel more heroic and whatnot as well. their take on gods and dragons is refreshing as well.
sorry - no major revelations here. I just liked it so far.

Re: eberron
Fri, December 14, 2007 - 2:01 PMNever heard of this although I am familiar with Darksun. The PriestKing thing just got too dreary, as in, how could they let the fantasy thing progress that far. Maybe this Eberron is without so many cantakerous epidemic spells? -

Re: eberron
Fri, December 14, 2007 - 2:28 PMYou've never heard of Eberron?? Have you been in cave the last few years. :P Even those D&D players that never updated to 3rd ed. know of it. I'm running an Eberron campaign and my players seem to enjoy it. It's a fun setting. -

Re: eberron
Sat, December 15, 2007 - 4:10 PMAs of recent years I've been more indeed into more somber Fantasy Setting. Dark Sun would be good if updated with the right people -- hell, send it out to White Wolf and see it they can give it the World Of Darkness treatment?!
If I were to do a Dark Sun game -- I'd do it out of its current setting of the city state areas and create my own. That regions background degenerated too much into a soap opera approaching Dragonlance... -

Re: eberron
Fri, December 21, 2007 - 10:04 AMYeah, we were all over the place on the darksun thing. We ignored a lot of the books (by which i mean the novels), although we did take away some of the mutating stuff of Rajaat and all that. -

Re: eberron
Fri, December 21, 2007 - 11:23 AMIn Dark Sun they took a great concept and over -did it to sell stuff for a cash strapped TSR.
Eberron, looks like it is in danger of doing so well before the announcement of 4th edition. Which Wizards will likely do so again for more $$$...

Re: eberron
Sun, December 23, 2007 - 6:54 PMI bought few D&D books and only then when 3.5 came out. For the most part their redundant in material they have to offer to seasoned gamers...

Re: eberron
Tue, December 25, 2007 - 10:01 PMThe eberron setting is really interesting. Very dark, very heroic. A lot of the world is sort of a post magical World War II, so there arent a lot of high level things going on. There is use of magical / mechanical mixed technology, especially for transportation, its really nice. Dragons have a whole new sort of outlook, thank god. In general the whole idea of good / evil is more blurred, like with the possibility for corrupted clerics in the church hierarchy and things like that.
