I'm curious how it's going for you. I may be trying some tonight myself.

Dammit I hate this edition. I hate it because I love it when I play it, but not when I look through it. Its full of flaws, nonsense and illogical choices. Then I play it. And I enjoy the heck out of it. I can't help it, its fun. Its fast, its easy (just don't try running more than one character). I look through the books, and get disgusted, but then I play the game, and it rocks my socks again. Hrmph.

The character customization is whats keeping me away. I generally have finely detailed characters with a certain thing that sort of defines them in my mind, which is where I start role playing them. Just seems harder at this point to have that level of detail.

I am sure they will print another 3000 books and there will be some of it. But yeah, I was pretty happy with third / third and a half. After so many years, my DM had quick reference for all kinds of monsters / villians, which was our only complaint: how long it took to figure out beaties and such and make their stats. We solved it by kicking out rukles lawyers, and if a paticular ogre was really strong, well, the DM said he was and he would hit harder no matter what the rules were (without the DM having to look up 800 feats and figure out how the ogre could get them).

someone sent me a download of the books... not interested.. Have played since chainmail days and took until 2 years ago to get me interested in 3.5, totally skipped 3.0 I like 3.5 but still missing some of the basic fixes for the reality aspects.

to explain a little... I am working on rewrites of the old modules... towns in particular... missing are typical small down details.... like... dogs and cats, owned or stray... not to mention coyotes etc... Relationships between townspeoples... not one module has anyone related to anyone else... not possible in a small town, just go to any modern small town...lol. Land ownership,,, or vassaled out parsels etc... I have always had some of these added, now with the new town rules I am refining them...

I checked out the books, and honestly it looks like it was made so that John Q. Public can understand and play without having to worry about too many details. Me? I feel it's become just like a video game. I'm more than happy with my older stuff.

I've started playing in a couple of campaigns. It's a very different play dynamic. We made up color coded Cards for all of the feats/powers to keep track of which had been used and that helped quite a bit. Before, picking a fighter character meant there was less to keep track of than one that had magic. Now everyone is as complex as the magic users with all of the daily/encounter/at-will powers.

Our Rogue never did anything but the at-will Riposte Strike and did ok the entire campaign (levels 1-16). Our ranger got tired of being a one-trick pony at low levels doing his archery stuff and multi-classed into cleric to get some variety. Wizard and Warlord were by far the most tactical, while all the strikers and defenders just had nice stuff in the right situations.

Almost everyone in our gaming group dm's so we take turns with different campaigns, about 50% is 4ed and its nice, the other half is 3.5 or CoC. The character builder helped a lot for a first game to start quickly especially if you want to start over 1st level and with gear. Also, the difference between levels is smoothed out so if you want to punish players for not coming and dock xp they won't hurt as much as 3.5. My favorite part is the 1-hit point Minions, which i've used for decades, but now they have a name!

As we finished out the games this month, we'll start two new 4ed campaigns and one 3.5, but this time with tome of battle and tome of magic, so it's more like 3.9... the tomes really are the best of both editions.

I'm in two games now. Played Dragonborn Warlords twice now, and one Dwarf paladin. I'm learning more about the system and how to tweak a character. I know I've been saying I wouldn't invest, but I have the PHB, DMG, AV and MP now. I'll likely get PHB2 this month. Its actually pretty fun overall. The RP kicks in in the social settings, and that's where we get our character development done. Then the combat starts and its time for some teamwork. It really shows when you use teamwork vs not. We've taken on some stuff we shouldn't have beaten at our levels, and done pretty good. Only died once for real, and the group had enough to rez me. Only hit 6th level so far, but its going better than I thought. I'm in. Dammit, I'm in. Even with everything it can't do, and the repetitive nature of the powers, blah blah blah. I'm in.

played it once. it's not d and d, but it's fun.
one irritation, i know that there are scads of tweeny players, but dragonborn are pretty stupid. a core race? wtf.
looking at the barbarian in phb2- it looks pretty fucking rad.
also for those inclined to life on the high sees:
the whole thing is easy to find as a torrent.
at least until you try it and make up your mind whether it's worth buying or not.

Yeah, played a dragonborn now for about 10 levels. The concept has been fun enough, but I need to diversify a bit. Been playing a warlord mostly. We did start a game where i made a 10th level predator druid, A move speed of 14 is pretty awesome, I must say.

Hello. I happen to not be playing. The tribe accepted Hangers On, so I joined. My reasoning is that I put in several hundred thousand game hours on 2e, and I like to communicate here so it meant something. There must be at least one more like me in this group?

2e was fun, i played it all through junior high and high school. when 3e came out i had pretty much stopped playing, but i picked it up again and realized that all of my integral complaints about 2e were addressed- no clunky non weapon proficiency system? increasing core attributes? class levels for monsters? it was great.
